House Speaker Urged To Step Down After Allegedly Misusing the Name of the President in Freeport Contract
jpnn.com - JAKARTA – A politician of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), a lawmaker in the House of Representatives, Adian Napitupulu has urged the House speaker Setya Novanto to step down temporarily as the House member for further investigation regarding allegedly misusing the name of the President and the Vice President.
Setya Novanto has been reported by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said to the House Ethics Council (MKD) as he, allegedly, misuse the name of Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla during a meeting with representatives of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) talking about its contract of work’s extension.
“Setnov (Setya Novanto) first must be deactivated from his position as the member of the House. This is to ensure that the investigation runs transparently and without any intervention as it was what happened with Donald Trump case,” said Adian on Wednesday November 18.
Adian explained when Novanto was reported to the House Ethics Council (MKD) regarding his meeting with US business tycoon Donald Trump who is running for Presidency, at that time the investigation was intervened. One intervention was when House leaders had prevented the House secretary-general from complying with the House Ethics Council’s summons. “Preventing the House secretary-general from coming to MKD’s summons was a form of intervention,” he added.
The member of Commission VII also said that Novanto’s good name should be restored if he was not proven guilty. On the other hand, if what reported by Sudirman Said was found to be true, the House Ethics Council should take tough measures against Setya Novanto.
“If he was not proven guilty, it can be restored. But if he was found guilty, it means that he made a serious violation. He must be discharged not only from his position as the House leader, but also as a House member,” said Adian. (fat/apa/jpnn):id="339296"
