Dia menduduki urutan ke- 20. Sementara Presiden Joko Widodo juga berada dalam daftar tersebut. Sebagai pemimpin negara dengan penduduk mayoritas muslim, Jokowi, sapaannya, berada di urutan ke-13 paling berpengaruh. Tokoh Indonesia lain yang berpengaruh adalah Din Syamsuddin (41) dan Habib Luthfi bin Yahya (45).

Posisi Ketum PBNU Kiai Said Aqil, dan Presiden Jokowi, lebih tinggi dibanding beberapa presiden di negara muslim seperti Presiden Mesir Abdul Fatah Al-Sisi yang berada di urutan 21, Sultan Muhammadu Sa’adu Abubakar III, Nigeria (Sultan of Sokoto) (21), Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad (28), President Mahmoud Abbas. Ulama populer Dr Yusuf Al Qaradawi berada di urutan 31.
"Penobatan Ketum PBNU sebagai tokoh paling berpengaruh, sekaligus membuktikan dunia membutuhkan Islam yang ramah (toleran), inklusif dan damai sebagaimana dipraktikkan NU selama ini. Islam seperti itulah yang oleh Kiai Said disebut Islam Nusantara," kata Ketua PBNU Robokin Emhas di Jakarta, Senin (10/10) malam.
